Emergency contraception

Emergency contraception pills work best the sooner that you take them. Some pills can be used up to 5 days after unprotected sex. The most effective form of emergency contraception is having a coil inserted. You can get emergency contraception pills without a prescription from many pharmacies including branches of Boots and Lloyds. Your local family planning clinic, NHS walk in centre and GP can also prescribe it for you. You can search for clinics at fpa.org.uk.

You can also walk into 56 Dean Street during our opening times to discuss both the pill or coils methods. Go straight the reception on Level 1.

Get more of your existing pills or injection

If you are happy with your current pills or injection you can get further supplies from your GP or any family planning clinic. Routine contraception services in Westminster are provided by our partners at CNWL. Their closest clinic to Dean Street is the Margaret Pyke Centre on Tottenham Court Road. You can also search for contraception clinics at www.fpa.org.uk.

People aged 19 years and younger can walk into 56 Dean Street without an appointment for contraception.

Want a coil or implant put in or removed

Coils and implants are very effective at preventing pregnancy.

You should not have had unprotected sex (i.e. should be on a method of hormonal contraception or have used condoms) from the start of your last period until the coil has been put in.
