Standard PrEP pills contain 2 drugs called tenofovir and emtricitabine. Rarely tenofovir can affect the
kidneys. That’s why we run regular kidney blood tests to check everything is OK. The test measures
the level of a substance called creatinine in your blood. (Although it sounds similar, creatinine is
different to creatine).
However, your body converts some of the creatine into creatinine. This interferes with the kidney
test result and makes it look worse. A high protein diet can have the same effect.
That’s why it’s important to stop your gym supplements before you come in for PrEP. Two days is
enough.
Our friends at LGBT HERO are running a survey for every LGBTQ+ person. Whether you

they want to hear from you. Can you spare 10 min to fill in their anonymous survey to help
